Flair Kennels
We are a small select kennel in Timaru, South Canterbury, New Zealand Meet our family of dogs who are our very best friends. In 1969 Dave began exhibiting Rough Coat Collies where he became very successful in the Breed show ring. He then moved on to exhibiting many breeds, until he found the Bichon Frise which is now the closest to his heart. He imported from Dobrana Kennels in Melbourne Australia several Bichons including Aust/NZ Champion Dobrana Debonaire (Jason) and for all but one BIS to get he would have been a Grand Champion. Jason has been a great asset to many bloodlines in NZ & Aust. And it is him that we still base our bloodlines on today. Daves former kennel was under the prefix VALINDRA and in 1991 he branched out and began FLAIR where he continued on with the bloodlines. In 1976 I (Averil) began exhibiting Maltese under the prefix VON KRISSAMAR where I also have had many successful champions. Some years later I imported several Maltese NZ CH Dorraine Miss Money Penny (Imp Aust) and NZ CH Sandisue Smooth Talker (Imp Aust). I have had other breeds which I have enjoyed exhibiting, some long coated which can be a challenge and some short coated breeds under the prefixes Krissamar, Normamaree and now Dave and I have combined with the prefix FLAIR. In August 2002 we had the opportunity to purchase Bridiebrook Smart In Tartan at the age of 2.5 years. Both of us have enjoyed her company and her show career where she became a Champion. Since then we have gone on to breed some wonderful Border Collies and would not be without them. In 2004 we were keen on introducing Blue Merle Border Collies and by February 2005 we had bred our first litter of Blue Merles since then we have bred Chocolate, Black Tri , Red and Blue. With the aim to breed quality well mannered border collies. We have now DNA tested all our breeding stock for CL and CEA and some for TNS and Hip scores. We are proud to anounce that since early 2007 our puppies are clear for CL and CEA by parentage. I took the opportunity to go to THE 1st BORDER COLLIE NATIONAL in Sydney in 2006 and went on to the massive agfest in Tasmania where I met some top dog herding trainers and learnt so much that I then came home and began training my own dogs. It is with thanks to Tull Luttrell from Hobart Sarasota Border Collies a ANKC Herding Judge & Accreditor. Through this trip I have met and become very good friends with a huge number of breeders and trainers etc which has broadened our horison's for further knowledge and bloodlines.
